Liquor King is a well known New Zealand liquor chain with 40 stores nationwide, owned and managed by Lion Nathan. Their website (which mainly operates under the shopnaked.co.nz domain name) contains an extensive range of alcohol available for online purchase. Their site states that they are “New Zealand’s largest online liquor retailer” but they are struggling to maintain their market share online against other grocery and alcohol retailers and in particular they appear far behind Blackmarket.co.nz – a site selling discounted wine online.

With a limited web development and marketing budget blackmarket.co.nz are outperforming their competition with ease. This report investigates why Liquor King are failing to be the market leader online.
